Ontario High School Education Facts and Stats

Ontario Government funding for public education in Ontario has increased to $18.8 billion for the 2008/2009 school year.

Ontario’s publically funded schools are administered by 72 district school boards and 33 school authorities. "School authorities" consist of geographically isolated boards and hospital school boards.

Ontario School Boards are divided as follows:
31 English Public School Boards
29 English Catholic School Boards
4 French Public School Boards
8 French Catholic School Boards

There are 4,002 elementary and 884 secondary schools in Ontario (2005-06).

Number of public school teachers: 118,508, consisting of 73,952 elementary and 44,556 secondary. (2005-06)

Number public school principals and vice-principals: 7,138, consisting of 5,260 elementary and 1,878 secondary. (2005-06)

Number of public school students in 2005-06: 2,118,544.
